So we've decided to rent a townhouse in an apartment community in the center of town. We are doing a 1 yr contract on a 3 Bedrm, 2.5 bath, and 1633Sq ft at The Reserve (http://www.reserveinevansville.com). Peter will drive up from Atlanta on 10 July to start work on the 11th; Ava and I will stay with my mom. We will then drive up on the 15th to *hopefully* meet the first of our 2 shipments and move in on the 16th. Will update this with our address when we get it. If you are interested in the details of what turned out to be an exhausting trip, then read on.
After waking up at 4am Monday to catch our 6am flight, we found out at 530 that our flight was canceled due to mechanical failures. After standing in line behind 40 other people to re-book, we begin talking to the airline by phone. After a 50 minute call with a very rude lady*, we finally got transferred to a guy that re-booked us on the exact same flight schedule the following two days (and gave us 10k Skymiles each).
So after waking up on Tuesday at 4am again and catching our connecting flight with no problem, we arrived in Evansville with no problem. We had a nice relocation lady drive us around during the two days, showing us the different parts of town and amenities. We saw 4 single family homes to rent and they were all quite dumpy. Apparently the rental market is quite saturated as no one has the money to put the 20% down to purchase. (rent would have been double the payment of a mortgage payment.) We drove by countless homes for sale and went in to see 5 of them. By this time, we had a chance to also see the apartment at The Reserve. We decided to go with the Reserve so that we can stay there while we figure out the neighborhood we want to live in and not make a rushed decision. And figure out how long we will even be in Evansville.
So after a long exhausting process but a place to live, we found out our flight to Atlanta en route back to DC was delayed... by 2.5 hours. We got off the plane at 10pm exactly in time to see our flight was scheduled to leave at 10:11. Peter and I miraculously ran from gate D30 to A3 in time. Unfortunately, our flight ended up delayed by over an hour there, meaning we got into DC around 12:45 midnight and home around 1:30am. Needless to say, we are just happy to be done with that trip.
Ava was great. That was the first time we've ever left her over night and for that long. She got along fine with Peter's parents. Unfortunately, she had a little cold and cough.
*Delta Rudeness: "if you want to talk to another representative you can hang up and call again and you'll get someone else", "you want to know my name? I'll transfer you to someone else....My name is Ingrid Williams" (says the lady with a Jamaican accent), "I just dont understand what you want me to do, just tell me what flight you want to fly on" (um, we dont know, isnt that your job?)
