10 Month Memories

Sad. I wanted this blog to be about individual Ava memories, but it is turning into a monthly bullet point list of all the Ava highlights. So this month it's....

*Vacation: we took our first vacation by flight (not to back to the US) with Ava to Spain when my sister was visiting. Was a nice 4 days away to enjoy time together, relax, enjoy warm weather, etc. A 2 hr flight and only 1 time zone away made it doable. Ava's also easier at this age -- not a fussy eater, not demanding food/sleep at certain times, easier to entertain, etc.

* Waving: Ava loves waving hi & bye. To anyone anywhere. One special good-bye is to wave bye to Peter before work, then for me to run with Ava to the window for her to wave/smile at him going down the stairs and out the gate to work. I'm sure it breaks his heart to leave, but it is cool to have a special way for her to say bye to him. She watches him until he is out of sight, then rolls towards the carpet to get on with exploring her toys. We use to stay sitting to watch the morning traffic pass by, but she isnt interested in it as much anymore.

*Kisses: Due to Peter's perseverance, Ava has learned how to give kisses. 99% of the time, they are open mouth and slobbery. It is usually saved for me, Peter, and select stuffed animals. But she warmed up to my sister and also shared a kiss while playing with a little boy during our women's Bible study. Mind you, Peter has been practicing closed mouth pecks on the cheek since then.

*Tigger: the cuddly Jelly Cat Tiger Peter bought her. We now own two so we can sew him up as he falls apart (already performed the 1st operation - sewing his back seam back together) and make sure one is always washed. It was our saving grace during our trip to Spain.

*Movement: Ava's on the go. Definitely has my energy & curiosity. She is crawling everywhere, climbing everything. Constantly climbing up, squatting up, climbing back up with her toy, squatting back down with her toy, dragging her toy to another part of the room. She climbs everything now -- the furniture, her bed, our bed. She squeezes in the tiniest spaces -- between the pelican chest and wall, between furniture, a barely opened door, under our legs. If it is a small space, she will attempt to crawl through. She is exploring sounds (banging spoons against pots in the kitchen), pulling books off her shelf, loving textures (loves the ridges on the water bottles), and making faces. The best are to check out the pictures in the March picture album on Shutterfly (link on the top right).

*Gentle Spirit: Ava still is a very gentle spirit, which I think she gets from Peter. Which is why we are going to keep her first birthday party to family only. She tends to take her time to get adjusted to new faces and places, but once she opens up she is all smiles, silly faces, and waves.
