At first I thought she had a stomach bug that is going around, but I thought that was odd because we haven't left the house in the last 3 days. Then she quickly developed a rash around her mouth and her right eye, which she started intensely scratching. We felt a bit silly calling 999 (UK's 911) because it just looked like a bad rash, but Google told us to call because the allergy could come quickly and her throat could swell and make her stop breathing. An ambulance came in a few min, but by that time the swelling had gone down considerably. Again, we felt a bit silly, but they assured us to call them again next time. They checked her temperature & sugar levels (both which were normal) and told us to go see the doctor in the morning. After the doctor checked her and said she was normal, they prescribed some antihistamines for the future. If it happens again, they will refer us to a specialist.
We are pretty sure it is not the baby rice, but it is either the formula, mango, banana, or a preservative in the brand of baby food I purchased. So will have to revisit these items in the next month. The doctor also suggested trying new foods out either at breakfast or lunch and only on a weekday, that way we can easily go see the doctor and have an opportunity to monitor her during the day.
Again, our angel Ava remained as calm as could be. She was quite social with the emergency medics, didn't cry when they pricked her heel to take the blood test. We are really quite blessed that she is now 7 months and this was her first issue. Hopefully it is the formula. Because Peter is obsessed with mangos, Bindu & her dad love bananas, and she is 100% asian so there will always be rice at the dinner table.
