So the blood work I took last week came back higher than expected. I do have relatives who have diabetes even though they are quite old. But apparently that doesnt matter, bc it just means it is hereditary. Apparently it means I have a higher chance of developing diabetes when I'm older. So they said it should serve as a wake up call for me to adjust my diet/exercise now (which is weird considering my diet/exercise is quite good compared to the normal person). Outside of it being hereditary, they said it could be because of my hormonal change also.
Anyways, the concern is that I have extra glucose deposits floating around my gestational sack where the baby is. If I dont regulate the sugar, then 2 things could happen: 1) the baby begins to eat the sugars and doesnt learn how to create/maintain insulin on its own which means it gets big which could lead me to need a c-section or give me a painful last 3 months/delivery or 2) the baby is delivered and does not have access to these glucose deposits, never learned how to make insulin, and then its insulin levels crash. Conclusion: better to develop the healthy eating and regulate the insulin levels now for me and the baby.
So at my dr's appt today, they took more blood , gave me a glucose monitor and have asked me to record my food intake. I'll have a 3rd scan next Tues next wk followed by an appointment with the Nutritionist & Endocrinologist (sp?) on Wed next wk. More than likely I'll either have to take tablets but if I cannot regulate it through my food intake and tablets, then I'll have to give myself insulin shots thru the remainder of the pregnancy. Apparently they'll test the baby 3 times after it is born to make sure it doesnt have any infant diabetes related issues.
The nice thing about the UK health program is their medical teams are split into different areas. So i've been assigned to a diabetic team, which is nice. Anyways more from me next week after my appointment... or after I'm back from France! :)
Two other direct answers to prayer... 1) Peter has a friend who had purchased a bunch of baby stuff for his little girls; when his wife got deployed 2 months later, they sent the girls back to the US to live with the grandparents while he finished school. He has decided to give us all the brand new baby stuff they bought. Praise God that we do not have to buy any of that stuff! 2) our landlady agreed to let us break our contract on this flat if we found a replacement. Praise God that we've had 2 people come forth, which means we are hoping to be into another flat by mid-march so we can settle in before I get too big. The Lord is so good and loving; we are so blessed. Thanks for all your prayers!
Bin
